I got the footage into iMovie, but the picture was very digitalized and there were huge black digital patches all over the screen. I was disappointed to say the least, and ended up returning the product. I was very excited to get this so I could finally get my home movies (now on VHS) onto DVD. They said that was a defect, but even the stuff that was not blacked out was extremely poor quality. First, I was unable to get the file into iMovie. After talking w/the people at Pinnacle, they had me reinstall the software. This might be OK for viewing things on an iPod or capturing your video games but it is NOT good enough for preserving your priceless home movies. I called Apple and asked them what they would recommend and they said to get the "elgato EyeTV 250 Plus digital/analog TV receiver and video connector." They said the video quality will be very good.
I just bought this today (at the Apple store) and returned it within 4 hours of purchase. I bought it for 2 reasons:1) To capture video from a camcorder that is not Mac compatible & 2) To transfer my parents' VHS home movies to digital.I tried both types of transfer and got the same results both times: the video quality is poor and, here's the biggie, the audio is about 1.5 seconds behind the video. Don't buy it.
Maybe five minutes and I was capturing video. after reading some reviews I was skeptical, but purchased it anyways. (Machine Cinema, creating cinema using a video game as a medium) I had to buy this product because I am on the switch to everything mac. So I can not use Final Cut to import the video with the Dazzle for the mac, nor can I import it from Imovie.
So I had to purchase the same thing but for the mac. I spend a lot of time capturing video from my Xbox 360 to my computer for doing Machinima. There was no sound delay for me at all. It was a bit pricey compared to the windows version but worth the money if you own a mac and that is what you need or want to capture with. I received it today and tested it.
I do not have the money together yet to purchase Final Cut. If you just want to capture home videos or video game play and you are not willing to spend the money on an HD card. I was previously using the Dazzle Video Capture for windows. But the Pinnacle video capture program works well enough. I am very pleased with this product.
It was very easy to get up and running. Then you can drag and drop straight into Imovie for some quick editing if need be. This is defiantly worth the money.
The only problem is if your iTunes library is massive and you're having to store it somewhere other than your internal HDD (i.e. Set up was easy and it easily captured a VHS home movie. The Pinnacle Video Capture for Mac just doesn't have the options to make it useful. an external HDD or NAS)this Pinnacle product will not work. However, there are no options where it will store these massive video files. The only option is to store it on your computer's internal HDD so when the capture is complete it can send it automatically to iTunes. This lack of being able to place the captured video anywhere will quickly consume all the space on your computer's internal HDD.Pinnacle technical support really wanted to be helpful, but they just were not able to make this product do the simple task of choosing where to store the captured video file. Alas, I can not recommend this product.
Yeah, it's only a hundred bucks, but the piece of junk doesn't WORK, so what seemed like a bargain became a big ripoff. Had problems installing and running it, finally got it working, sort of, captured 2 short videos, then it went haywire again. Tried reinstalling, etc, support was TERRIBLE, slow and not well informed. Do yourself a favor and buy another brand.
